The original building of the Plough Inn dates back to c1500. The original date of the pub is unknown but the cellar and stables (now the bar) were built in 1720 when the Plough became a Coaching House.

The Coaching House Inn was a well-known watering hole on the ‘Welch Switch Back’. The Inn served local ales and ciders as well as offering accommodation and bathing facilities to cliental travelling from Wales to Birmingham. Coal drivers would often stopover at the Inn, tying their horses up at the rear of the pub and would then pay to have a bath!

The original cellar is still in use and has a natural watercourse running through the centre. The watercourse keeps the cellar at a perfect humidity for our wide selection of local real ales! We pride ourselves on our high standards of cellar keeping and during the warmer summer months offer a variety of up to eight real ales!

Recently the popularity of the pub has increased and the business has gone from strength to strength. The building of the unique conservatory restaurant has increased the dining capacity to 160. The Plough Inn serve top quality home cooked food that is sourced locally. We are proud to say that we are . . . ‘England’s Number One Carvery’
